Geek TV - Game of Thrones, Gotham, and more!

The Captain's Blog Entry 11 - Stardate:  No Idea

It's no secret that there are so many amazing television shows out there for geeks.  From regular channels to cable, The CW to Syfy TV, it seems that every network is trying to cash in on how interested people are in geek and comic book characters.  It's really no surprise because the idea of being geek has become a mainstream badge of honor that is cool, sexy, and fun!

Being a part of this industry requires us to do field research.  You might just call it watching television, seeing the latest movies, and reading comic books, but it sounds better on our tax return the other way.  :)

So here's 5 television shows that we are obsessed with right now at Con Couture

1.)  Gotham

When this show premiered in 2014, we just couldn't get into it.  But a year later, we decided to give it a 2nd try and we are completely hooked!  We absolutely love the way they are laying the groundwork for the rise of so many famous and popular villains - our favorite being the scheming Oswald Cobblepot's Penguin.  The actors do a wonderful job week after week of bringing the story of James Gordon's rise to prominence in Gotham City to life!  Gotham airs Monday nights on 8/7c on Fox.

2.)  The Flash

What's not to love about wholesome Barry Allen and his friends?  As with Arrow, The CW has taken a popular comic character and given us episode after episode of tremendous backstory, new villains, and excitement.  We are in awe of how convincing Tom Cavanagh has been in his various roles, and constantly laughing at Cisco's one-liners.  Another huge positive about The CW is that their shows get soooo many episodes which really gives fans their fill!  The Flash airs Tuesday nights on 8/7c on The CW.

3.)  Game of Thrones

Once again, premium cable brings to life an opulent and cruel fantasy world as no one else can!  HBO's Game of Thrones is 1 hour of television that we look forward to every week.  We are also members of "the annoying book readers club" of fans who know exactly what's coming, but Season 6 has put all fans on equal, unknown ground.  Every episode of Season 6 has brought joy, surprise, and screaming at the TV, as to be expected with such an unpredictable story.  HBO is working with some of the most talented actors and they do an incredible job of doing justice to a fantasy masterpiece.  Game of Thrones airs Sunday nights at 9/8c on HBO

4.)  Jessica Jones

We binge-watched Jessica Jones last month on Netflix and kind of had some mixed reviews about it.  On the one hand, it had some really interesting plot twists and drama.   But, we also felt that the story dragged a bit and honestly, got downright depressing.  However, one crucial plot element that definitely makes us recommend the show is the introduction of Luke Cage, played brilliantly by Mike Colter.

The Hero for Hire has his own Netflix show premiering September 30, 2016, and although Season 2 of Jessica Jones is confirmed, it probably won't be available for streaming until 2017.

5.)  Daredevil

Daredevil, Elektra, Punisher, oh my!  Daredevil has been one of our favorite new shows and Netflix has done an amazing job of creating a compelling mix of vigilante heroism.  Plus, the addition of Jon Bernthal was most definitely the icing on the cake of Season 2.  We binge-watched this at a feverish pace and are anxiously awaiting Season 3 for more heroes, more villains, and more bad-ass fight scenes!  Daredevil Seasons 1 & 2 are available now for streaming anytime on Netflix.

So that's 5 of the many shows that we are obsessing over right now!  With so much great geek and dramatic television options out there, it's amazing we even find time to work on Con Couture!  :)

Tell us in the comments, what shows are keeping you hooked these days?!

Enough about us, we want to hear about you!  Whether it's your first time hearing about us or you're a returning Con Couture customer, leave us a shout out in the comments below.  And tune in for the next entry on The Captain's Blog!  ;)
